Project Ctrl+ is a digital literacy project aimed at equipping students from underserved communities in India with essential Microsoft Office and basic ICT skills. The project focuses on long-term employability while acknowledging the need to provide tailored educational resources and teaching methods to ensure effective skill development among students.
To achieve this, we have adopted a multifaceted approach encompassing activity books, a YouTube series, and in-person teaching programs.
The activity books delve into each Microsoft Office application, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and more. They are designed to provide step-by-step guidance and hands-on exercises that help students gain practical proficiency in using these applications. The content is carefully curated, taking into account the specific needs and challenges faced by beginners.
In addition to the activity books, Project Ctrl+ offers a dynamic and engaging series of instructional videos on topics like how to participate in a hackathon, how to avoid viruses, and which Coursera courses to undertake to become more tech-savvy. These videos have been developed to be accessible to students with varying levels of prior knowledge and serve as an important resource for self-paced learning.
To complement this informational material, we also conducted in-person workshops with NGO students, which involved sessions on the programs outlined in the Crtl+P Activity Book Series along with individual instruction being provided to each student. Over the course of the Ctrl+Y workshop sessions, we worked with the students on Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel for targeted skill development. The series of workshops culminated in the students putting their knowledge to the test in the Ctrl+B Hackathon.
By providing both online and offline resources, Project Ctrl+ aims to work towards bridging the massive digital divide in India and empower students from underserved communities with the tools and knowledge they need to thrive in the digital era.
